On January 5, 2001, Blake Smith fulfilled one of his many goals by purchasing Dixon-Bowen-Taylor Funeral Home. A corporation based in Canada, the Lowen Group, owned this funeral home.

The Dixon-Bowen-Taylor Funeral Home was established in the 1980s, and the Lowen Group purchased it in the mid 1990s. That left Pierce County without a locally owned funeral home; the other funeral home in Blackshear is owned by a corporation.

Smith Funeral Home is still the only locally owned funeral home in Pierce County.

Blake Smith and the staff of Smith Funeral Home are very proud of this fact. It's our job to insure that Smith Funeral Home provides better, more economical services because we are locally owned and operated.
